France squad named for Ukraine play-off tie
Tue Nov 7
Eight Ligue 1 players have been named in France's 24-man squad for the two-legged World Cup qualifying play-off against Ukraine. Rio Mavuba has been recalled by Didier Deschamps.
Lille captain Mavuba has not played for his country since September 2012. Mickaël Landreau, Steve Mandanda, Eric Abidal, Blaise Matuidi, Clément Grenier, Dimitri Payet and Mathieu Valbuena are Ligue 1's other representatives.
English Premier League club Newcastle United again supply the largest contingent with Deschamps naming Mathieu Debuchy, Yohan Cabaye, Moussa Sissoko and Loïc Rémy.
Morale in the camp is high after last month's 6-0 friendly win over Australia and the 3-0 World Cup qualifying victory over Finland.
France beat Ukraine 2-0 at Euro 2012 in a storm-affected match in Donetsk. Jérémy Ménez, who is omitted from the current squad, and Cabaye scored the goals.
Goalkeepers: Mickaël Landreau (Bastia), Hugo Lloris (Tottenham/ENG), Steve Mandanda (Marseille).
